Welcome to the next stop in the Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Summer Tour! Today I am reviewing the very summery Jasmine Dress. And for today only you can buy the Jasmine Dress pattern for $5. You also have the opportunity to WIN 3 patterns of your choice!
I knew my girls would love the one shoulder style of this dress because it’s so girly. My extemely-girly-five-year-old wanted me to make it strapless! But she was very happy with the finished dress.
I was excited to use these fun, trendy prints. The chevron is Robert Kaufman’s Remix Zig Zag Stripe and the Ombre Dots are from Riley Blake. My girls helped pick it out. They are very picky when it comes to their clothes (I have 2 little fashionistas on my hands) so I find that if they are involved in making it or picking it out they are more likely to wear it.
I love PDF patterns because I’m all about instant gratification. You get an email, you print the pieces, and you’re sewing! There are only 3 main parts to this pattern: the skirt, the bodice, and the tabs that make the shoulder ties. It came together very easily!
This is my seven-year-old. For some reason I cut out a size 8 for her when I know she wears a 7. I guess I was excited to get started. It was big in the bodice so I took it in on the sides and it fits fine now. I’m sure she can wear this next summer too. Gotta love a two-season dress!
Both of my girls decided they didn’t want the strap on the other shoulder. It works fine without it. The top stayed in place and didn’t droop down at all while they were wearing it.
Instead of adding the little ties on the sides of the dresses, I decided to Lily Bloom-ify them with a flower pin. Flower and ruffle embellishments are kinda my thing. (Amy, I hope you don’t mind). It would also be cute with a ribbon belt.
The Jasmine Dress is easy to wear, comfy, and will get too short for your daughter before it gets too small. When that happens, throw on some leggings and you have a whole new look!
